My Take/My Life

Complexity and the Average American

"....I keep going back to this cynical point of view that I have and people jump down my throat but the underlying problem we have in this country is the people are too stupid to be governed, they are, they are too dumb to get it.  So how do you explain complex satiations like terrorism, like the environment, you don't, the public is like, it's like a dog, it can only understands inflection, it can't understand any sort  of rational argument.  You know a dog can understand 20 or 30 commands like come, and sit and fetch and the people in this country can understand things like Mavericks and surge and surges always work and mavericks will clean stuff up so I don't trust them to make the right decision..."    (Bill Maher on the Rachel Maddow show and Larry King Live)

That is a shining example of liberal elitism in this country, the belief that complex issues as presented by intellectual people are far too intricate for the average American to comprehend.   It is the reason given by the left for the failures of Al Gore in 2000, or John Kerry in 2004. These were complex men who had the intellect to solve America's problems but lacked the dumb down gene to tap into America's heartland.  This is the problem with the liberal elite, they fancy themselves as intellectuals capable of great things if only ignorant Americans would just trust them.  The idea that the hard working men and women of this country are too dumb to be governed is offensive and these assertions by the left are on the rise.  Did you listen to the Sotomayor hearings?  Have you been paying attention to the debates surrounding "Cap and Trade" or "Healthcare?"  Did you hear Vice President Biden explain that this country is bankrupt and the solution as the Obama administration sees it is to spend more money?  Trust us they say, we are the smartest guys in the room....  Barack Obama was exposed when a tape came out during the run-up to the last election in which he stated, "... And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them..."   This made its rounds on the media circuit, at the time Hillary exploited it but in the end it has been marginalized by the very people who believe that the average American is too stupid to be governed.

Over the course of the campaign and even up to this point in Obama's administration this has been the prevailing attitude.  Again, nuanced but ever present.  The left has moved from the bold into the cold.  Gone are the days where you would hear the limousine liberal set make statements like this, "America is dumb, it's like a dumb puppy that has big teeth that can bite you and hurt you, aggressive."  They have combined their bold faced frontal assault on the American people or Middle America with a vicious tactical assault on individuals.  Rather than simply attacking you and me they have sharpened their strategy to take down those who represent us.  Sarah Palin is a perfect example.  According to the liberal elite, that would be those on the far left politically and in the mainstream media, she is dumb, ergo anybody who likes her, anyone who is refreshed by her presence in the Republican party is dumb.  She doesn't possess the intellect or experience, just ask any liberal and they will tick off the talking points of the liberal elite.

Another example would be the "Tea Party," another group of dumb Americans according the intellectually gifted leftoids that are running the show.  These people are simply Americans who are struggling to understand the explanations being handed out today when it comes to stimulus packages, bailouts and corporate rescues, healthcare reform and cap and trade.  These things are always explained as "Complex" issues meant for intellectual minds offered by people with a "just trust me" attitude.  The transparency that we were promised by Barack Obama that would simplify our lives and make understanding government easier has turned into nothing more than a complex maze of neutered words dispensed by unelected Czars amounting to nothing more than a gross manipulation of the public trust.  Complexity is the badge this crowd wears proudly but complexity is where deceit finds refuge.  The truth and the answers to most questions are always simple when viewed through the lens of common sense.

Of course that is just my take.
