My Take/My Life

Great New Book

My Review of

Global Warming....Really?

Thomas Jefferson said "Information is the currency of democracy," and Greg Parker's first venture into the publishing arena gives the reader a substantial amount of currency for the greatest debate of our generation.  Parker's wit and charisma are evident as he breaks down this complex issue.  Written in simple language for the laymen it serves as a pocket guide for those seeking quick retort when facing irrational "Global Warming Alarmists."

Hiatus

Several days back I mentioned that one of the benefits to writing this blog and editorials for the print media as well as pieces for online content is that occasionally I get to write for other people.  I also mentioned that I was absent from posting on the blog due to a project that I was working on.  The new news is that this project is in the process of blossoming into a possible career move for me.  Although I cannot divulge the nature of this new path my writing career has taken I will tell you that this path leads to the same end.  Therefore, I am announcing that I will be taking some significant time off from the blog to cultivate this new endeavor and hope that I can return soon to let you all know exactly what I am talking about.

Complexity and the Average American

"....I keep going back to this cynical point of view that I have and people jump down my throat but the underlying problem we have in this country is the people are too stupid to be governed, they are, they are too dumb to get it.  So how do you explain complex satiations like terrorism, like the environment, you don't, the public is like, it's like a dog, it can only understands inflection, it can't understand any sort  of rational argument.  You know a dog can understand 20 or 30 commands like come, and sit and fetch and the people in this country can understand things like Mavericks and surge and surges always work and mavericks will clean stuff up so I don't trust them to make the right decision..."    (Bill Maher

Selling Sotomayor

The Supreme Court puppet theater finds itself back in the spotlight today. I refer to these hearings as "Puppet Theater" because the outcome is a four gone conclusion, Sonya Sotomayor will be the next Supreme Court justice. The fact of the matter is with Democrats in control of both houses of Congress, Republicans have neither the votes nor the political moxie to block this nomination. Having watched gavel to gavel coverage up to this point I have made a few key observations, leading the way is the apparent "conversion" she is experiencing during these hearings. During the hearings yesterday Sotomayor was asked about President Obama's comment that in coming to a legal conclusion 95% can be attributed to ones legal knowledge while the remaining 5% comes from the heart. This is where President Obama derived his "empathy" litmus test from. Sotomayor quickly dismissed the idea that a judge comes to any conclusion utilizing emotio

The Day the Music Played

I'm going to depart from ranting about politics today. Yesterday we learned that the "King of Pop" Michael Jackson had died and my first reaction was to focus more on the unsavory aspects of his later life but as the evening wore on I was reminded of a few things. First and foremost, no parent should ever have to bury their child. This is a personal issue for me as I had the unfortunate experience of witnessing my parents suffer through having to say goodbye to their son, my brother. Whether you loved Michael Jackson or hated Michael Jackson the sad truth is that his death is a tragedy for his mother
